Tuesday - Dresden

We had a splendid trip on the fast smooth train from Hamburg to Dresden on Sunday. On Monday we started out at the beautiful Frauenkirche and sat in the front pew and meditated on the miracle of the church rising up from the horrible ashes of war-time bombing. Then the Sammangs came and took us to their garden in Meissen and we enjoyed plum cake and sugar cake. Their vegetables and fruit are prize winners and not a single weed. The Rosskamps joined us at the garden and then took us all to dinner at a restaurant in Meissen. This morning it is raining so we are happy to have a nice room at the Hilton.

  1. So nice to hear from you again. How long was your train trip? Say Hello to the Sammangs and the Rosskamps for us. Will you be staying at the Hilton until you go back to Hamburg (by train) to board your ship on Saturday? D

  3. Hi again! I am reading your blog from the library because it is much faster (including the time driving to the library) than our computer at home. We thoroughly enjoyed our weekend in Michigan. The Lake was pretty windy and exciting, so the kids enjoyed the high waves. I didn't even try climbing to the top of Warren Dunes, but some of our party did it twice! At Captain Mike's Fun Park nearby, our two licensed drivers were able to be the "adults" to drive in the go-carts with two of the younger ones. Nick was partners with Kate, and Rachel was partners with Emma.

I don't think I've ever eaten plum cake or sugar cake. Is that a particularly German recipe? I'd like to try it sometime.

    Love,
    Linda
