Those of you who knew me way back when, remember Franz, my one and only high school date. He was a scholarly, kind and thoughtful person but he was a man of reason, not a man of faith. Of course I knew that it would be a mistake to be "unequally yoked together" but it was he who told me in so many words that we could never be more than friends because of our faith differences. Fast forward 50+ years: Through the miracle of cyberspace we are (long-distance) friends again and he has twice recommended novels by Marilynne Robinson.
Last week I went to the nearest branch of the Kalamazoo Public Library and checked out Gilead and Home by M. R. They are stories of faith and the lack thereof. I read Gilead first because the book jacket said it won the Pulitzer Prize and then I read Home.
I understand why Franz felt those books were worthwhile to read and I whole-heartedly agree with him.
What a wonderful Facebook connection!
