It occurred to me that politics and football are basically the same game. Whichever team (party) does not have the ball (power) tries to block and tackle the other, cause fumbles, steal the ball, and sack the quarterback (president). It wouldn't be a game if all the men of both teams loped down the field together in one direction and took the ball over the goal line together.
When Olympia Snow briefly joined the other team to advance the ball to the health reform goal I thought, "Aha, she is a girl and never played football".
You are so smart to correlate the two entities. It reminds me of the Pastor of Cedar Lake Baptist Church who was likening football to getting new people to come to church and giving the mens and womens team points.He had a scoreboard in front of church etc. L.S.
