Every day at dawn and dusk we watch for the arrival of two cardinals. The same pair comes almost every day. They come together but do not eat together. First papa sits on the porch of the restaurant and takes his time munching and meditating. When he is finished, mama hops up from the bush beneath the eatery to nervously nibble. If papa wants more, mama hops down and waits her turn again.
The restaurant has a wrap-around porch and they both could eat at the same time and never catch sight of the other but their strange behavior works for them.

ReplyDeleteThe cardinals like the songbird mix which has a lot of different seeds. When the big black sunflower seeds are gone they seem to be happy with anything that is left.
