Hamburg Germany

The ship arrived at about 5:30 a.m in the rain. Along the shore quite a few people waited to see the ship arrive. A special sight that we'll remember was when red umbrellas sent a welcome by being lifted high in the air and then lowered over and over until the ship passed. The people of Hamburg love Queen Mary and a little rain did not prevent them from coming out to wave and welcome us.

It was a thrill to see the steeple and clock of St. Michael church appear in the mist once again. We took a taxi to the hotel and were pleased that our room has a good view of the river. In about an hour we expect to hear Queen Mary's deep whistle and then see her majestically pass by on the way north on the Elbe to Scandinavian countries.

We are waiting in our room (30234) for our friends from Meissen to make contact.

Alles Gute!

  2. Glad you made it safely. Am sure the ship's captain doesn't point out strategic points like the airline pilots do along the journey. Can't imagine the ship's captain announcing, "we are now passing the precise coordinates where the Titanic was last seen above water." Hey, if you get to Frankfurt, Michele Caruso-Cabrera is there covering the financial crisis from the German perspective for CNBC. Please tell her I said hello. We're friends on FB. Sorry you missed the Fish & Chips. Tell Sister, easy on the beer gardens.
