Flag Day

One privilege that the flag stands for is the right to vote and we are pretty good about voting in every election.  On Monday we applied for absentee ballots for the August and November election but there is something special about going to the polling place and voting with other citizens. If our health and weather conditions  permit we might vote in person in November rather than mail in the ballots.

The sooty flag in the picture came from the family house in Chicago.  The neighborhood was surrounded on three sides by steel mills and on most days, black gritty smoke filled the air   The flag is probably as old as when  the 50 star model first appeared when Eisenhower was president.   Those were the good old days when  political parties worked together after an election for the good of the country just like the red and blue come together to make up our flag.
